Old Review – Fill in the Blanks

History 10 – scans of the Jeopardy reviews and a link to a website that has powerpoints on our entire course.  I will also put up a French Revolution vocab review.

Science 9 – For those 9B students that check in, I don’t have much more to throw at you.  I will include a meisois sheet and a cut and glue on meisosis.  Any other questions you have will need to be sent via email.

Social 9 – don’t expect an update until tomorrow, as I will be making my history 10 final tonight after updating the website.

Science 9E - Since we are a day ahead of the other class, we continued on slowly today.  After reviewing the answers for the lab calculations on distance for the scale of planets, we actually went into the hallways and drew out the distances on till tape.  KEy ideas to get out of this were that the closest 4 planets were all within 2 meters of the start (sun).  The outer 4 planets were much further away, with Jupiter beginning at about 5.5 m and the final planet, Neptune was over 30 m away.

History 10 Band – We wrapped up the French revolution section on the Reign of Terror.  Students need to be done the questions that go with that reading.  We then looked at the idea of the reaction to the reign of terror and the creation  of the Directory.  We read the info on the Thermidorian Reaction and looked at the problems plaguing the Directory.  We concluded by looking at the coup d’etat of Napoleon and his 2 accomplices.

Social 9 – We finished up our section on the Decline of the Roman Republic and looked at Caesar closer.  Students spent most of the class completing a question package on this section.

History 10 - We continued with the Industrial Revolution, and looked at the working conditions in the factories.  Students read an article called “A Modest Proposal”  , that was a satire of the industrialization and commercialization of society, in which the author suggests solving England’s unwanted children problem by selling them as food.

Remember Tuesday is dress up in Christmas colours day.

Science 9 - We spent time reviewing for the test that is tomorrow.  We started by practicing another cost of energy calculation question (found in the text on page 286).  We then read about electrical efficiency and completed a couple of practice questions like on page 287.  We spent the rest of class preparing for the exam, going through the terminology page and answering any student questions.  Remember to look under the tabs section of this webpage for more study resources.

Social 9 - Social 9 started our first full day on the Romans.  We started by reviewing the map activity from yesterday and then began to look at the geography of Rome.  We watched a horrible histories video as an overview of the time period and read the story of Romulus and Remus.  Students then had to complete a worksheet on the geographical features of the Roman world and how they influenced Rome’s development.

History 10 - We continued in the Industrial Revolution.  We looked at the ideas of economics during the middle ages and then moved into the period just prior to the Industrial revolution, where mercantilism was the dominant economic philosophy.  We then started to look at the connection between agricultural changes and the need for more food, increasing population and looking for new energy source.  Students read the intro information on the Agricultural Revolution and then started notes on the same topic.

With the new report cards and making it to the Provincial Final in football, I haven’t devoted any time to the blog over the past 3 weeks.  But now I have some time and with students being away more often, its important to get this back up and running.

I’ve also added some videos in to the History 10 tab for studying purposes.

Science 9 - We corrected the notes page/definitions on electric cells.  We also reviewed the terminology for dealing with the measurement of electricity – voltage, current and resistance.  We began to explore Ohm’s Law.

Social 9 - We reviewed the Persian Wars , then completed the notes on these wars as well as a graphic organizer for the wars.  Have that completed for Wednesday.  We spent the final 10 minutes on the Peloponnesian War.

History 10 NS- This class reviewed the events leading up to the Fall of the Bastille.  They then had 15 minutes to work on an assignment that was given last class.  Finally, we watched Part 1 of the French Revolution video that I have posted in the History 10 tab.  Some students started on the Moderate Revolution reading that explains the years following the Fall of the Bastille to the death of the king.

History 10 P5 – We spent today reviewing for the unit exam tomorrow.  WE practiced with some jeopardy questions and then started to review the written assignment before the end of class.  I have posted the answers to the worksheets here for you to study from as well.  *** Use your writing practice to prepare for the written part of the exam.  Also think about the question:  Was Napoleon a hero or a villain and back up your answer with evidence.  Leave any questions in the comments section and I will try to get back to you tonight.
