Science 9A – We started by reviewing the results of our lab yesterday and doing a quick check in on Physical and Chemical Changes.  Based on the 5 indicators we listed, we looked at the lab results and for the most part correctly identified which ones were chemical and which were physical and why.  Students then did a worksheet on physical and chemical changes, identifying them and the reasons why they classified them the way they did.  Finally, we did the last part of the experiment using Potassium Iodide and Lead Nitrate and saw the best examples of colour change and precipitate formation.

Reminder – quiz o Friday on section AE 9.1 – Lab Safety, Lab Equipment (that we’ve used), WHMIS, Physical and Chemical Properties and Physical and Chemical Change.

Social 9B – Still chatty, so no current events today.  We started by correcting the worksheet on the Calendar Story.  Key ideas were the name of the calendar we use now, why is our calendar not perfect still and how did Pope Gregory adjust the calendar, and how and why did early societies need to tell time.  Students also needed to hand in their sheet on divisions of time.

We then started to look at how do we know about the past.  We briefly discussed – Oral history, Written History and Archeology.  We then focused on Primary and Secondary sources and completed the notes on those topics.

Tomorrow students have their first current events quiz.  You should also be done your sheet on the Origin stories that Mrs.Welegan gave you last week.

History 10 Band – We started on the Industrial Revolution today.  We started by looking at key economic questions and discussing the big changes/impact of the technological changes that occurred.  Students completed notes on Standard of Living and then started mapping the top 20 and bottom 20 countries according to the Human Development Index.   We will wrap up the maps on Monday and then get into the idea of overall economic models (command, traditional and market economies).

History 10 P4 and P5 -

We reviewed the Reformation for the first bit of class today following current events.  We watched the trailer for the Movie “Luther”(2003).  We also watched scenes of Luther in Rome and of John Tetzel selling indulgences.  We finished the Reformation with some notes and emphasized the causes of the Reformation and the impact of the Reformation.  Both classes also started on the notes for the Scientific Revolution.  On Friday, following the current events quiz, we will wrap up the Scientific Revolution and wrap up the background section with the Age of Exploration.
